Andy Hafen | Henderson Historical Society - Nevada
President, CEO
Former Mayor Andy Hafen was unanimously chosen by a selection committee recently to replace founding president/CEO Lou LaPorta, who died last March 2020 at the age of 96.
Hafen was the mayor of Henderson from 2009-17 after serving on the Henderson City Council from 1987-2009, representing Ward 2. He retired from the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department in 2002 after working on the force for more than two decades. Hafen also worked in the 1970s as a clerk for the Federal Bureau of Investigations and as an accountant for Sunrise Hospital. He graduated from UNLV in 1976 with a bachelor’s degree in business administration.
Hafen married the former Debra Dalton in 1973, and the couple has five daughters and one son, along with 13 grandchildren (10 girls and 3 boys). Hafen, a fifth-generation Nevadan who was born in Henderson, has been a member of the Henderson Historical Society since its origin in 2011.
