Mary Monahan George

Mary Monahan George was born and raised in Henderson. Her parents, George and Angela, moved to Henderson in 1947 with her two brothers George and Darryl. The family first lived in Victory Village, moved to a home on Nevada Way and finally to a house on Church St., where the family welcomed another son.

She attended St. Peter’s Elementary school along with her brothers and beloved family dog “Ginger”. Only in Henderson could your dog be in the classroom all day, be in the class picture and even receive his own picture package.

Mary is married to fellow Basic High graduate Steve George. They have three sons who also are Basic alums. After retiring from the Clark County School District, Mary got involved with the Henderson Industrial Citizens Advisory Panel (HICAP). HICAP meets every other month with members of the City, Clark County and H enderson Fire Departments, Plant Managers and local business members to discuss safety and information on the industrial plants located in the area. The Historical Society is important to her because she feels the city has a unique and interesting story that needs to be told to generations to come.
