Tom Sheahan | Henderson Historical Society - Nevada
Thomas Sheehan was in his eighties when Lou LaPorta, founder of the Henderson Historical Society (HHS), called on a group of Henderson old timers to help him establish the Society in 2010. Tom was his choice as the first Treasurer of the organization. He had been a resident of Henderson since the 1980s. In addition to knowing much of Henderson history first hand, he was a Certified Public Accountant and was prepared to help the newly formed organization with issues related to non-profit status important to the HHS. Lou and Tom were easterners, from immigrant Catholic backgrounds and members of the historic St. Peter’s Church on the Boulder Highway in Henderson. They spoke the same language, plus Lou was Tom’s landlord. How could Tom say no?
Tom was born December 18, 1930 in Philadelphia, PA to the late Elizabeth (Dietrich) and William Sheehan. The firm became known as Sheehan & Sheehan, Ltd.; a business relationship that lasted 25 years until their retirement. Tom is survived by his wife, Helene. They were married 55 years; his brother, William J. Sheehan and his wife MaryJo Sheehan; sister-in-law Joan M. Wright and many nieces and nephews. Tom was active in the community as Treasurer of the Childrens Service Guild of Southern Nevada, Treasurer of the Henderson Historical Society, a member of the Henderson Public Improvement Trust, a member of the finance committee at St. Peter the Apostle Church and was a Paul Harris Fellow of Rotary International.
