Henderson Speaks: History of the BMI Plant

Join us on Wednesday, November 14, 2018 and learn about the History of the BMI Plant, how it helped allied forces win WWII, and its evolution as a peacetime resource. See great pictures, hear myths and other stories, like mysterious tunnels and “The Donut Hole”. Help HHS salute the men and women who first put Henderson on the map and those who continue to make our growing town proud.

SPEAKERS:

Mark Hall-Patton, Clark County Museums Administrator, will be our Moderator.

Robert “Bob” Blankenship, retired HDF Asst.
Chief will speak on the unique relationship the Plants have with the City of Henderson and Clark County sometimes referred to as the “Donut Hole”. Bob lived in Rail Road Pass as a baby, grew up in the Townsite/Henderson, and remembers stories his parents told about the Plant, where they both worked.

Richard Brenner, Clark County Fire Department and member of the BMIs Community Advisory Council (HICAP), will address the role of CCFD in providing fire safety to the BMI Plants.

Doug Haag is a retired engineer who began his career with a brief employment at the Bureau of Mines in Boulder City and ended it with a long and illustrious career at Timet in Henderson. His memories of Timet and the Henderson Plants span the time period 1954-1990. His stories of the science and history of the Plants will benefit teachers, students and community members.

Ben Sheehan is a member of a pioneer Las Vegas/Henderson family whose experiences date back to the early 1900s. His memories of the Plant both personal and those shared with him by his parents will help our audience to learn the history of Henderson and the BMI Plants.

Lou LaPorta, a Henderson founder, Phil Roybol of Timet fame, Adrian Clark, member of a family with long work experience at the BMI, and other loyal friends of the Henderson Historical Society will be in the audience, ready to share stories that support the presentation of the panel.
